Kiburi means Pride in Swahili, the link is obvious between pride and lions. Its more than that though, pride is a human emotion. I always try to make that link between humans and animals as they share the same emotions as us, the same family values. They’re protective over their pride and we’re protective over our family. All life is precious and that’s something we humans have forgotten.

'Kiburi' Original - By Robert Buchanan, 2022
It usually comes as a surprise that prior to 2020 Robert
spent most of his professional years as a ski instructor. A
drastically changing climate encouraged a drastic change
in profession. Moving from one passion to another Robert now works full time as an artist. Working mostly in monochrome he likes to obsess over the details in his subjects using negative space and expression to provoke emotion.
Roberts love for wildlife has a constant presence in his
work with most of his pieces having a conservation
theme, donating a % of profits from each sale to a
relevant charitable organisation.Although Robert’s career as an artist is very much in its infancy, he’s already making waves in the wildlife art community. In his first year as a professional artist he has already won awards at the DSWF Wildlife Artist of the year competition and been featured in BBC Wildlife Magazine.
